Fringe Insiders is an idea that has been bouncing around our kitchen table in Edinburgh for the last decade or so.
This is my 27th consecutive August in Edinburgh (with the exception of the pandemic years) — an annual pilgrimage when I meet with my colleagues from around the world at the end of every show day to talk abut the work we have each seen. Those late-night gatherings made us realize that there were many shows we would never get to see given the sheer volume of work on offer. We are a very inquisitive bunch of characters and seeing exciting work is what makes all of us tick. Together we decided to offer our insights to artists who wanted to know what we thought of their work.
Our hope is that artists who are serious about having an ongoing life for their current show will consider engaging Fringe Insiders. We know it isn’t a service for everyone. It isn’t free, but we feel that it is a true value for money proposition. Think of it as an extension of your marketing budget aimed directly at a group of people who are making decisions at presenting and producing organizations around the globe. We have a pretty good sense of what works, and what might need improvement.
As for me, I have had fabulous experiences at the Fringe. Here are a few of the shows that I have been involved with over the years: Lone Twin: Walk with Me, Walk with Me, Will Somebody Please Walk with Me, Nine Years; Cynthia Hopkins: Accidental Nostalgia; Blind Summit: The Table; National Theatre of Scotland: Black Watch, The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart; Scott Silven: At the Illusionist’s Table, Wonders.
Fringe Insiders will be in Edinburgh right from the start of the Fringe. We wish all of you a great Festival!
